It's time to eat

Or as the kids say "I'm cooking," and "I'm eating."

Old man rant:

Our day jobs provide us with a front row seat to the ways and means of Gen Z. Two years ago, the phrase “I’m cooking,” caught on as a way of expressing that they were “on a roll” or “on fire” or “doing a good job” at something. Last year, this was traded in for “I’m eating” because apparently the meal prep was finished and now it was time to sit at the table. Instead of “I did it,” kids say “I ate that” or instead of “Did I do this right?” they’ll ask “Did I eat?” or “Did I cook?”

I thought this year, after all that cooking and eating, it would be time to clean up and the new slang would be “I’m washing dishes.” But no. This year, Gen Z is still “cooking” and “eating.” I guess we’re the ones stuck cleaning up after them.

If you’ve been around here a while, you know we’re making a Buddy and Romeo holiday book. That means, each holiday, we post cartoons that hardly have anything to do with said holiday because we’re saving the cartoons that are actually about the holiday for the book. So Happy Thanksgiving! You can look forward to cartoons that are actually about Thanksgiving when the book comes out next year. For now, enjoy cartoons about prepping and coming together for the formal dinner of the year.

We went on our semi-annual date last weekend. Shout out to our babysitters. Plural. That’s how many it takes. More than one.

Living documentation of our daily lives.

We went to an art museum, which is fun for all of the obvious reasons but most especially because we first met at an art museum. That’s a story for another time though.

Back to Thanksgiving, which we’re hosting. It’s a crowd of 23 so we’ve got to get busy. Let’s set the table.

My sister (as always) is bringing a glorious cheese platter (amongst several other things). Since childhood, she has treated her cheese with care and respect, insisting that “you can never touch a piece of cheese” at it will be ruined with finger prints, fuzz, and sweat.

Dinner is served! Mangia!

Happy Thanksgiving!
