Land of the Lost
Comics that haven't been seen since 2016 because they somehow didn't make it into our sorted filing system.
THIS WEEK:
WHERE ARE THEY NOW: New Coffee Lovers’ Christmas!
Lost cartoons!
BEHIND THE PAY WALL: More rare finds!
Buddy and Romeo Cartoon Substack is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support our work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.
How was your Thanksgiving? This post was originally titled “Leftovers.” But now it isn’t! Before we get lost, let’s get found.
Fresh brew! New for 2024, the 19th image in our Coffee Lovers’ Christmas series is here! “Special Order” is now available online as a greeting card and giclee print (the greeting card will be available at in-person locations beginning this weekend).
In case you missed it, last Friday we sent out an exclusive promo as a thank you for subscribing to this Substack. We doubled our public Black Coffee Friday offer to 20% off our Coffee Lovers’ Christmas greeting cards, giclee prints, and mugs plus free shipping on all orders. Originally set to expire at midnight yesterday, we’re extending the offer through tonight (Wednesday) and the offer expires December 4, 2024 at 11:59 pm.

We have a pretty good filing system for our Buddy and Romeo comics. In the newspaper days, we had one folder per year and all of the cartoon files stored within were named based on the date of publication. In 2020, they were re-sorted based on topic because apparently I was unknowingly preparing for this Substack, which would launch three years later. Here’s a screenshot of those folders.
None of the Alone for the Holidays cartoons are on Substack. Those we’re saving for the book.
Apparently, not all of the comics made it into those folders. Some were forgotten and rediscovered tonight whilst preparing this post. They all appear to be from 2016. I look through the 750 cartoons in the series every single week as I make the selections for the Wednesday morning Substack posts. I’ve seen every cartoon, every week since we started doing this Substack 22 months ago. Every cartoon except for these.
So here they are, unseen by anyone — including us — since they were first published in 2016. Unless someone saved any of the newspapers.*
*We saved them. But they’re somewhere buried in a box that we never open. It’s just proof for our great-grandkids that we were in the newspaper every day for seven years.
Also proof that newspapers existed.
Join us behind the paywall for three more lost cartoons — and commentaries!
