We found ourselves in several social situations this weekend, most (if not all) of which I found myself saying nothing out of fear of saying the wrong thing or deciding to speak up and actually saying the wrong thing. I need to prepare a list of conversation points ahead of gathering with friends and family, rehearse phrasing, and run through dialogue scenarios. It’s like trying to predict the future and then writing a script for it. Maybe I don’t actually write it down anymore (I did circa 2009, which is when these comics take place) but I test material out in the car on the way there. Even if I rehearse (mentally or out loud), I still manage to forget my lines.
Sometimes there’s no telling what direction a conversation may go. Sometimes, you should see it from a mile a way.
