In Real Life, Real Buddy and Real Romeo met on Tuesday, September 3, 1991 at approximately 9 am. For Real.
We were in first grade. He was then, and remained all through high school and college, the kewlest kid in school. Several young ladies befriended Real Romeo in high school and college — for the express purpose of learning everything there was to know
about Real Buddy.
When Real Buddy took to the stage senior year of high school as Kenickie in the musical Grease, the audience could be heard checking their programs en masse, perplexed and desperate to learn the true identity of the young Swedish man singing “Greased Lightning.”
I’m serious. The Monday after the performances, a teacher stopped me in the hallway to congratulate me (I played Sonny). Once that was out of the way, he moved on to his real point: “Who was the kid who played Kenickie??”
Freshman year of college, a girl took me aside in the dining hall to see if she could get the inside scoop on Real Buddy’s workout regimen. Again, this is a true story.
Much of this would probably be news to Real Buddy who, still to this day, stays in his lane, follows his heart, and makes his art.
For your viewing enjoyment, here’s a greatest hits collection of Buddy in animation. A pencil test segment from the next Buddy and Romeo short appears towards the end.
To tell you the truth, I’m not sure what Real Buddy’s history with golf is. But here’s Buddy caddying on CartoonStock.
The single panel colorized version was first published in 2017 as part of the Mates and Dates comic strip series.
Real Buddy and I never golfed together. But we did play tennis. In fact, we were doubles partners on the high school varsity team!

If you’re a millennial, you likely entered middle and/or high school expecting it to be like A Goofy Movie. Released in 1995, the film celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.
Disney+ has a new documentary about the making of A Goofy Movie called Not Just A Goof out now. Check out the trailer.
They also released a recent reunion between Jason Marsden (Max) and Bill Farmer (Goofy).
Next week…

-Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane Watson in 2007’s Spider-Man 3.
But first, join us behind the paywall for dinner.
