THIS WEEK:
Misinterpreting a Taylor Swift bonus track and superheroes
“Where Are They Now?” Teachers of Vision and Super Vision!
BEHIND THE PAY WALL: Copyrights and Taking Credit
We haven’t stopped listening to THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT — and we will not! Is this her best album? Is it any match for nostalgia? Can it really dethrone the time spent and memories made with her last work? I don’t know but Taylor Swift’s 11th album is a masterpiece with no skips. That said, we still don’t like “Florida!!!” but are forcing the listen each time to see if it’ll grow on us.
Quick! Can you sing “I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can)” or remember what it sounds like? Neither can we.
We know we can’t keep talking about Taylor Swift on this Substack every week. We have so many other interests!
Did anybody say Marvel? One of the bonus tracks on THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT is called “Robin.” Some early fan reviews interpretted this song to be about Christopher Robin. DiPerri thought it was about superheroes with referencers to a kid on the playground pretending to be The Big Three - Batman, Superman and Spider-Man (Batman and Robin; the lyrics “higher and higher” meaning Superman flying; and “Way to go, tiger,” Mary Jane called Peter Parker/Spider-Man “Tiger”). He’s probably wrong but this week, let’s have some superhero cartoons!
“It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s…it’s…”
Two idiots.
Bring your friends!
Our cartoon in the Spring 2024 issue of Teacher’s of Vision…
Here’s a bonus cartoon, which is more fitting for this week’s theme.
It never sold (it’s from our earlier single panel submissions) and probably for good reason. You can find this and better Frega DiPerri cartoons here!
If you’re enjoying yourself at Buddy and Romeo’s expense so far, please consider becoming a paid subscriber. You’ll get exclusive comics and commentaries; behind-the-scenes drawings and project developments; and access to this entire Substack archive. Plus, the more coffee we drink, the more we’ll create.
